July 4th is coming up soon. I’ve written many articles on our Constitution, and here is another one. Let us examine what the role of government is, according to our Declaration of Independence. And let us contrast the stipulations of Article VI, Section 2 of our Constitution with Article 29, subsection 3 of the the UN Charter.
Thomas Jefferson, one of the foremost of the Founding Fathers of our country authored the Declaration of Independence. The following excerpt of the finished text lists the exact role of government in our free republic.
“We hold these truths to be self-evident, that all men are created equal, that they are endowed by their Creator with certain unalienable Rights, that among these are Life, Liberty and the pursuit of Happiness.––That to secure these rights, Governments are instituted among Men, deriving their just powers from the consent of the governed,”
Our government was instituted to secure our unalienable, God-given rights. Among these rights are life, liberty, and the pursuit of happiness. But we have heard these words so many times in our lives that they tend to flow past our awareness without their actual impact being noticed. So let’s break this down.
“We hold these truths to be self-evident,” or, it’s plainly obvious to any who are capable of reading these words, that the following statement is accepted as irrevocable fact; “that all men are created equal,” that is, we all come into this world in the same way, born from a union of mother and father, without obligation to anyone but God for the gift of life. With that gift of life comes other accompanying gifts of unalienable God-given rights. Among these are life, liberty, property and the pursuit of happiness. It is the function of government to protect and defend these rights.
Let’s contrast that to Article 29 subsection 3 of the United Nations Charter which says: ”Rights and freedoms may in no case be exercised contrary to purposes and principles of the United Nations.” Clearly, the UN charter and the U.S. Constitution are at unreconcilable odds. The Constitution states our God given rights are above all, and the UN Charter claims that the UN purposes are above all. And yet our Constitution states quite plainly “This Constitution, and the Laws of the United States which shall be made in Pursuance thereof; …shall be the supreme Law of the Land;”
“The United States Senate ratified the United Nations Charter on July 28, 1945, with a vote of 89-2.” This ratification marked each and every one of the elected officials who voted for it as traitors and in violation of their Oath of Office. Again, Article VI, section 2 of our Constitution states unconditionally: “This Constitution, and the Laws of the United States which shall be made in Pursuance thereof; and all treaties made, or which shall be made, under the Authority of the United States, shall be the supreme Law of the Land;” Given this information, we cannot honor any ratification of the UN Charter since it is clearly NOT in pursuance of our Constitution.
